Etching in time

Etching carries with it the sensation of penetration; the spatial cavity that accents in the hollow. This is all determined by time, which the etcher emphasizes to leave us his or her mark.

The process implies a consciousness of time that demands patience and anxiousness towards the very nature of the material. This reaction leaves cracks that break and open with an acidic aggression and the will of incision. Time makes them visible and because of that, it is a determining factor.

Leticia Morales etches and shows us the cracks that transcend her, perhaps they are how the artist makes us self-aware. Aware in that mysterious space of presence, full of unknowns and challenges that demonstrate spontaneous strokes of internal emotionality. The dramatic and evocative contrasts of calm and the storm, the continuous voids that are generated in the composing fragments that extend our perception. We intuit a continuity in the material that would continue transforming itself if it were not for that Leticia detains us and with her little formats shows us our minute participation in time.
